Judge rules that all presidential candidates qualify to run in repeat poll.
A Kenyan court has ordered the electoral agency to include Thirdway Alliance presidential candidate Ekuru Aukot in the ballot paper for October 26 repeat election.
Nairobi High Court judge John Mativo Wednesday directed the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to amend a gazette notice it had issued on presidential candidates to contest in the poll re-run.
In his judgment, the judge said he saw no reason why the petitioner should not be included, adding that the exclusion from the repeat election was a violation of Mr Aukot's rights.
The ruling opens the field for all candidates who participated in the August 8 presidential election to now contest in the re-run.
The Supreme Court annulled the August presidential election citing irregularities and illegalities and ordered for a repeat vote.
Judge Mativo said the repeat election was a fresh poll and not a run-off in which only two leading candidates compete.
