Airtel Africa CEO Raghunath Mandava said Mr Ferrao will take charge of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and Rwanda.
Airtel Africa Limited has appointed Mr Ian Ferrao as the Regional Director of its East Africa business, a newly created position.
Mr Ferrao has more than 12 years’ experience in senior management of telecommunications firms across Africa.
Prior to his appointment, he served in numerous positions including as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Vodacom Tanzania PLC, the CEO of Vodacom Lesotho and Chief Commercial Officer at Vodacom Business Africa. He holds a First Class Honours Degree in BSc Management Sciences from the Warwick Business School.

“He brings a wealth of relevant telecommunications and mobile money experience within the region and will be an asset to the business. He will be part of the Africa Executive Committee based in Nairobi and will focus on driving growth across voice, data and mobile money in East Africa,” Mr Mandava said.
The new regional director will be tasked with driving the company’s growth through data, voice and mobile money services in East Africa.
Airtel Africa is a leading provider of telecommunications and mobile money services, with a presence in 14 countries in Africa, primarily in East Africa and Central and West Africa.
It offers mobile voice and data services as well as mobile money services both nationally and internationally.
