Kinshasa is bracing for a clash between two icons of the ring as Mike Tyson and Floyd Mayweather are scheduled to face each other in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). But the bout due on April 25, is an exhibition boxing match but recalls the legendary ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ of 1974, when Muhammad Ali defeated George Foreman in the same city after eight rounds.
The fight is being promoted by Mike Coppinger of Ring magazine, but has attracted massive public support in Congo, notably by Mobutu Nzanga, son of the former president Mobutu Sesseseko.
