The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has awarded Equatorial Guinea sovereignty rights over a cluster of small islands in the Atlantic, ending a decades-long territorial dispute with neighbouring Gabon.

In a landmark ruling this week, The Hague-based UN court said the potentially oil-rich islands of Mbanie, Cocotiers and Conga, off the coast of Gabon in the Gulf of Guinea, legally belong to Malabo and not Libreville.
