When Dr Charles Bussa Munyumu arrived in Butembo last year, North Kivu, eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, he had a mission on his mind. He would become the first neurosurgeon in this part of Congo, which hasn’t seen peace in many years.
At the time, he was arriving in a region under the control of M23, the rebel group at war, and peace talks with the Congolese government. Yet he was bringing hope, especially for people who have suffered brain injuries and those battling stroke.
