Unholy alliance: Protesters face goons aiding police scuttle Nairobi demos

Goons on motorbikes pour into Nairobi CBD shouting 'hakuna maandamano!'

On Tuesday morning, Nairobi’s Central Business District was once again the scene of protests as citizens took to the streets to demand justice for the slain teacher and blogger, Albert Ojwang’, and call for the resignation of police Deputy Inspector-General Eliud Lagat.

The planned peaceful march, set to begin at Aga Khan Walk, was met with immediate police intervention. Even before the demonstrations could properly commence, anti-riot police deployed tear gas to disperse the gathering crowds. Outside Nation Centre, for instance, demonstrators who had just concluded prayers were swiftly scattered by the security forces.
