Kenyan President William Ruto used his May Day address Thursday to try to ease public anxiety over this year’s Finance Bill, promising tax reliefs and exemptions to boost workers’ take-home pay and productivity for small businesses.

The draft Finance Bill, 2025 tabled in Parliament Wednesday has also avoided the aggressive tax hikes which triggered a wave of youth-led street protests in the country in June and July last year, forcing the President to withdraw the revenue-raising law and disband his Cabinet.
