Africa can no longer rely on the solidarity that drove its liberation struggles if it hopes to compete and thrive in an increasingly complex and ruthless global order. Instead, the continent must embrace a new mindset built on collective action, shared purpose and a common voice, leaders at the inaugural Africa Mindset Reset Forum said this week, arguing that only a united and self-confident Africa can strengthen its influence and secure its place in the world.
While Africa is rich in resources, talent and ambition, speakers at the forum said the continent’s greatest challenge is cultivating the leadership, values and institutions needed to turn those assets into collective power. They called for a shift from the pan-Africanism that united Africa against colonialism to what they termed “meta-Africanism”, a framework centred on collaboration, capability and shared responsibility in addressing modern development challenges.
