Former Senegalese President Macky Sall is seeking a political thaw with his successor, Bassirou Diomaye Faye, in a bid to bolster his campaign for the UN Secretary-General’s post.
The outreach marks a striking turn in relations between the two men. Sall, now living abroad, had an acrimonious fall-out with Faye, whom he jailed shortly a year before the April 2024 elections. Faye and his then ally, Ousmane Sonko, were released only days before the vote.
