Somalia edges closer to famine as aid dries up and rains fail
UN agencies, which supply food to about 60 percent of those receiving aid in Somalia, says 4.4 million people, nearly a quarter of the population, are experiencing crisis-level hunger or worse.
Somalia is facing a renewed risk of famine, driven by failed rains, collapsing livelihoods and shrinking humanitarian aid.
Aid agencies warn that these factors have combined into a “perfect storm”, echoing conditions that preceded the 2011 famine that killed more than 250,000 people.
