Uganda and Tanzania have launched an ambitious new energy partnership centred on a regional hub at Tanzania’s Port of Tanga, that could attract more than $20 billion in investments, including an oil refinery, and reshape East Africa’s petroleum industry.
A deal signed by the Uganda National Oil Company (Unoc), the Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC) and Vitol Bahrain EC lays the foundation for an integrated energy corridor linking the two countries through multi-product fuel pipelines, oil and gas infrastructure, storage terminals, and a proposed refinery.
