Robert Mutahi has swelled the number of rare cars which will contest this year’s CBA Africa Concours d’Elegance by entering his 1972 Alfa Romeo Montreal sports coupe.

This top end Alfa Romeo model was made in limited numbers between 1970 and 1977 and is a highly regarded classic car throughout the world.

The Concours will be held by the Alfa Romeo Owners Club at the Nairobi Racecourse on September 28 to showcase the best kept cars and motorcycles in Kenya.

There are 12 classes for all makes and types of cars, station wagons, SUVs and eight for motorcycles.

At the invitation of the Montreal World Exhibition organisers, Alfa Romeo presented a prototype illustrating future technological progress in the motor industry.

The show Alfa Romeo was praised by the public and the company decided to manufacture limited numbers for sale to motorists requiring a prestige performance two seater sports car powered by a 2,600 cc V8 engine.

The Montreal is listed in the class for up to 3,000 cc touring cars, which was won last year by the 1967 Alfa Romeo 2,600 cc Sprint of Gayling May with Robert Mutahi in second place.

The rivalry between this two Alfa Romeo enthusiasts is an example of the stiff competition between Concours competitors in all the classes.

The class for utility vehicles already has a strong following including a 1972 Land Rover entered by Harry Thuku and a 1990 model that is being prepared by Jascruisers Ltd. Both Harry Thuku and Jascruisers have produced class winners in the past and their Land Rovers will be worth watching.
