Chan 2016 draw date changes to November 15

What you need to know:

  • The 16 qualifiers for the tournament are Angola, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
  • Rwanda qualified automatically as the tournament hosts.

The draws for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) will take place at the Kigali Serena Hotel in Rwanda on November 15, officials said.

The ceremony was originally scheduled for November 18.

The Confederation of African Football (Caf) announced the new date in a statement on Sunday.

Caf said the change was the result of the consultation with Rwandan authorities and the 2016 Local Organising Committee of the Orange African Nations Championship.

The fourth edition of the CHAN will be held from January 16 February 7, 2016 in Gisenyi, Butare and Kigali, the capital, which will have two venues; namely Amahoro and Nyamirambo.

The 16 qualifiers for the tournament are Angola, Cameroon, Cote d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Ethiopia, Gabon, Guinea, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, Tunisia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

Rwanda qualified automatically as the tournament hosts.

Cameroon and Cote d’Ivoire joined the list on October 31 following victories in their return leg matches against Congo Brazzaville and Ghana respectively.

The matches were delayed because of the presidential elections in Cote d’Ivoire and the referendum in Congo.

The Caf statement stated that the closing date for media accreditation for the event remains November 8, 2015.

CHAN features national teams made up exclusively of locally based players, who were active in their national championships.
