Tanzanian opposition ACT-Wazalendo party leader Zitto Kabwe has been arrested for alleged sedition.

According to a statement issued Tuesday by his party, the outspoken Kigoma Urban MP is being detained at a police station in Temeke, a district in Dar es Salaam.

“He was arrested by the police at his Masaki home this morning following his remarks during a campaign rally,” said party spokesperson Mr Abdallah Khamis.

Mr Kabwe is said to have made the seditious remarks while addressing party supporters at rally for Kunduchi ward by-election in Kinondoni, Dar es Salaam.
