A Tanzania High Court judge on Tuesday placed a temporary injunction on the political activities of main opposition party Chadema, effectively stalling its crusade for electoral reforms to ensure fair play in the country’s upcoming general election later this year.

Judge Hamidu Mwanga of the court’s Dar es Salaam Sub-registry issued the stop order to allow for the hearing of a petition filed by three former top officials of the party’s Zanzibar wing, claiming that the archipelago had been marginalised in various matters, including allocation of finances and other party resources.
