As Tanzania’s ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) headed towards the climax of its primaries, political intrigues linked to the upcoming general election shifted to opposition parties this past week as they fine-tuned their bids.

ACT-Wazalendo, which has emerged as the main opposition party after the controversial disqualification of Chadema, sprang the biggest surprise in naming CCM defector Luhaga Mpina as its candidate.
