The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi, popularly known as Bobi Wine, returned to Arua with pomp, drawing hundreds of supporters to his rallies in Arua, Koboko, Nebbi, Zombo, Moyo and Yumbe.

Arua is the place where, arguably, his political star rose in 2018, after he was beaten up by soldiers accusing his team of pelting a presidential convoy with stones.  Kyagulanyi was then Member of Parliament for Kyadondo East, near Kampala, and was on a campaign trail for opposition politician Kassiano Wadri, against the National Resistance Movement candidate in a by-election. Both Kyagulanyi and President Yoweri Museveni happened to be in the same town at the same time. The chaos saw many politicians beaten, arrested and others hospitalised.
