Zambian President Hakainde Hichilema is basking in congratulations from allies across Africa and beyond after securing a second term, even though his victory has also been overshadowed by allegations of irregularities, post-election violence and a looming court challenge.

The win gives him a fresh mandate, but little room for a honeymoon as he works to reunite the country and restore confidence in the electoral process.
