Senegal has decided to back former President Macky Sall's bid to become the next Secretary-General of the United Nations, upending an earlier stance where Dakar joined the African Union to refuse its own contender. But while the move marks welcome public support for Sall, it may not be a free lunch after all.
In a statement, Senegal's Ministry of African Integration, Foreign Affairs and Senegalese Abroad said President Bassirou Diomaye Faye had instructed "the government and the entire Senegalese diplomatic network to fully mobilise in promoting this candidacy among United Nations member states."
