It’s D-day but for Tanzania, we are not out of the woods yet
Tanzania’s President Samia Suluhu Hassan, candidate of the ruling Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM), waves to supporters during a campaign rally at Kawe grounds in Kinondoni District, Dar es Salaam, on August 28, 2025.
A few days before the funeral protocols for “Baba” at Bondo, Tundu Antipas Lissu, the accused in the Tanzanian treason trial, is brought to court and, as usual, there is some stir in the courtroom, which includes the accused’s party faithful. He sees his vice-chair, John Heche, greets him and tells him to remember to go to Bondo to bury Raila.
“You have to go to bid farewell to Baba. You have to go; it’s absolutely important that you go.”
