Decolonising intellect: Africa must build its own engines of thought, science and progress
Without homegrown research institutions, policies are borrowed instead of built. Ideas are imported instead of generated. Strategy becomes reactive rather than sovereign.
Africa has no shortage of human talent, ideas or resources. What holds it back are the broken systems that fail to turn potential into power. Its economies are vulnerable, its militaries dependent, and its developmental path is shaped largely from the outside.
One reason Africa remains fragile, though rarely discussed, is that we have not built or protected our own institutions of knowledge. We do not invest in our thinkers, our researchers, or our problem solvers.
