Kilimanjaro fire, now contained, destroys 1,800 hectares 

Tanzanian authorities say that the fire that raged on Mt Kilimanjaro for nearly two weeks has finally been contained.

A multiagency team of firefighters, conservation authorities, tourism stakeholders and local communities battled strong winds and highly flammable vegetation to put out the fire that consumed more than 18 square kilometres (1,800 hectares) of vegetation.
