Delays in Kenya’s grain imports are compounding an already fragile food security situation, as hold-ups in wheat shipments and import permits coincide with an anticipated maize shortage caused by poor rainfall in key agricultural zones.
Millers say they have not received the required C60 import permits, raising concerns that prolonged bottlenecks could tighten wheat stocks and increase the cost of flour, bread and other wheat-based products.
