Dei BioPharma, Uganda’s ambitious $1.1 billion pharmaceutical manufacturing facility whose financial arrangements sucked in Kenyan leader William Ruto into a regional storm four years ago when he was deputy president, has secured the first regulatory clearances to manufacture human drugs.

The development, officials say, paves the way to launch of commercial production of medicines, tentatively starting July 2025.
