Ugandan opposition figure Kizza Besigye ends hunger strike but coast is not clear
Prison guards wheel Uganda's four-time presidential candidate Kizza Besigye into the court room where he was charged with treason along with his colleague Obeid Lutale and Captain Denis Oola at the Chief Magistrate's Court in Nakawa suburb of Kampala, Uganda on February 21, 2025.
Uganda’s jailed former presidential candidate and leading opposition politician Dr Kizza Besigye resumed taking his meals Friday afternoon after he was produced at the Nakawa Chief Magistrate’s Court and formally charged.
Dr Besigye, who was grabbed from Nairobi in November and taken back to Uganda with his associate Obed Lutale, accused of treachery and illegal possession of firearms, was on Friday morning taken, in a wheelchair, to the magistrate’s court in Kampala, where the charge sheet dated February 20, 2025, indicates that he, Lutale, and Denis Oola- a military officer, conspired to overthrow the government of Uganda.
