The costs are mounting for Kenyans and other foreigners who overstay their visits to the US, following the aggressive stance of Donald Trump's administration. The administration will now impose fines in an attempt to pressure unauthorised immigrants into self-deporting.
This week, Washington began fining illegal immigrants as much as $1.8 million (Ksh232 million). Over 100,000 individuals have received correspondence from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) informing them that they owe $998 for each day they remained in the US after an immigration judge ruled that they had no legal right to be there.
