Germany is set to abolish its visa remonstration process worldwide, including for applicants from Africa, ending a system that offered a second chance to those who failed to obtain entry permits at first instance.

Berlin says that this will speed up decisions on tourist, student and skilled professional visas, for which applicants face long waits. This means, for instance, that visa applicants in Nairobi or other centres across the world will require court orders to force a review of any rejected applications.
