The ruins of the Old Pomene Hotel rise above Mozambique’s turquoise Pomene Bay like a monument from another era.

Broken staircases lead nowhere, graffiti marks the fading walls, and coastal vegetation is slowly swallowing what remains of a retreat that was once among the country’s most exclusive holiday destinations. Yet, in its crumbling corridors and open rooms, the abandoned hotel still carries echoes of colonial ambition, war, rumour and resilience.
