Ethiopia, Eritrea draw battle lines as crisis deepens

Tensions between Ethiopia and Eritrea reached fever pitch this week, potentially undoing the efforts to achieve peace that won Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed the Nobel Peace Prize in 2019.

Some experts believe that war was always a possibility, given that the issues that had brought these two countries to war were never properly resolved. This week, Ethiopia formally reported Eritrea to the UN, accusing Asmara of aggression.
