A bleak picture emerged as a panel discussed the status of Africa’s peacekeeping, part of events at the just-concluded International Security Conference on Africa (ISCA)in Kigali this week.
Among the panellists was Rwandan High Commissioner to Tanzania Patrick Nyamvumba, a former chief of defence staff of the Rwanda Defence Force. He once commanded the United Nations-African Union peacekeeping mission in Darfur (known as Unamid). When asked which way peacekeeping in Africa is going, his answer was terse: Nowhere.
