The African Union and several major regional blocs have signed an agreement aimed at speeding up and coordinating the deployment of the African Standby Force in response to conflicts and other security crises across the continent.

The MoU is designed to establish a framework clarifying the roles and responsibilities of the AU, the Regional Economic Communities (RECs) and Regional Mechanisms (RMs) in the preparation, employment, deployment and post-deployment phases of the African Standby Force.
