When Kenya’s William Ruto took over as Chair of the East African Community (EAC) Heads of State Summit in November 2024, there was hope all around that the bloc would turn the corner and push on with the journey towards achieving 40 percent intra-EAC trade.
A pan-Africanist, many looked up to Dr Ruto to resolve some of the geopolitical problems hindering regional integration, supported by the regional Council of Ministers and the Secretariat. His broader regional influence focused on strengthening economic integration, enhancing security, and fostering regional unity.
