South Sudan has dismissed reports of plans to expel foreign traders, even as Kenya and Tanzania rethink the role of foreign nationals in the informal trade sector.

On Thursday, South Sudan’s Foreign Affairs Ministry said in a statement that there is no government directive requiring foreign nationals to leave the country, seeking to clarify confusion sparked by a call for foreign traders to withdraw from small-scale retail businesses in the capital, Juba.
