Uganda is expected to deploy some 1,200 soldiers to Gaza in October under the International Stabilisation Force (ISF), as Burundi holds talks on joining the mission meant to secure key sites in the enclave, The EastAfrican can reveal.
A US military official confirmed the troop numbers expected from the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), saying the mission’s “leadership is working with Uganda to flesh out details between ISF and the host nation”. It is also the first time ISF has provided timelines for the start of the mission.
