When some guys whose parents migrated to the US before or even after other migrants’ parents, recently started exhibiting blatant xenophobia and even deported some of their victims to countries they had no links with, many Africans thought it was a temporary storm of madness sweeping across North America.
The storm took a southeasterly course across the Atlantic, dumping stinky stuff in South Africa where Africans turned upon Africans. East Africans could have thought it was some unhealed mental damage Apartheid migrants inflicted on the brothers they found down there, making them turn on their harder working brothers from up north a la Cain and Abel. After soiling the Cape, the toxic xenophobic waves veered north towards the Horn as their pungent stench swept over the East African shore. And we did not know what to say. Or do we?
