The DR Congo has emerged as the most lucrative regional banking market for Kenyan lenders, securing the top spot for the third consecutive year, and comfortably beating out the once dominant Rwandan market in earnings, the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) has revealed.
Despite Kinshasa battling political instability and security challenges, its massive unbanked population and booming mining have allowed it to comfortably outpace Kigali, previously the Kenyan banks’ most reliable market.
