Nigerian industrialist Aliko Dangote is expanding his industrial footprint across East Africa, building a network of investments in energy, fertiliser, cement and infrastructure that could increasingly link the region’s ports to manufacturing and inland markets.
At the centre of the strategy is the $16 billion Lamu oil refinery in Kenya, but the project sits alongside an established cement operation in Tanzania, a multibillion-dollar fertiliser complex in Ethiopia, a cross-border pipeline from Ethiopia to Djibouti, and discussions on new energy, port and transport infrastructure.
