South Sudan pledges security backup for Juba cargo
Following talks between truck drivers’ unions, logistics lobbies and authorities in Juba, the parties recognised that stability along the Juba–Nimule highway is essential to regional trade and committed to ensuring cargo movement in line with the rule of law.
The government of South Sudan has agreed to deploy more security forces along the main highway from Uganda to Juba, in the latest assurance aimed at ending a strike by truck drivers.
The decision followed talks between truck drivers’ unions, logistics lobbies and authorities in Juba, which sought to end constant harassment of drivers.
