Uganda is positioning its first crude exports for Asian markets as the country moves into the final commercial phase of its long-awaited oil project, with global energy trader Vitol appointed to market and sell the crude internationally from early 2027.
The appointment, formally announced on September 7, comes days after Uganda unveiled the name of its export crude, Pearl Sweet—a medium-to-heavy, low-sulphur crude with a high conversion yield that officials say is well suited to refiners seeking relatively low-cost feedstock for producing compliant fuels.
