Türkiye is deepening its role in Somalia’s maritime security campaign, after a joint operation led to the recovery of a cargo ship seized by Somali pirates, with Ankara saying 14 suspected pirates were killed and four pirate boats destroyed.

It adds to Ankara’s defence support and humanitarian deliveries, tying its influence on the federal government of Somalia, with whom it has enjoyed a decade of security cooperation.
