As Africa faces an 81 percent chance of a very strong El Niño season between October and December, it is also raising the prospect of one of the continent’s most disruptive events that could directly hurt food production.
The latest data shows that the season could come with drought to parts of southern Africa and the Sahel, while eastern Africa may face heavier rains, floods and other weather-related disruptions such as landslides.
